RESIDENCE AND COMMUNAL GARDENS Park Gate has a lovely community feel. Designed and built in 1958 by the architect Eric Lyons, the visionary behind SPAN housing; so-called because it spanned the gap between high-end architect-designed developments and city housing. The vision of SPAN was to create communities in well-thought-out living spaces set amongst beautiful, shared gardens, where residents could get to know one another and children could play safely, and it remains true to this philosophy. An excellent example of mid-century modern architecture, it retains many mid-century features in the stairwells and communal areas.
Outside a large communal garden encircle the flat both to the front and rear, with several lawns, a herb garden and a small children's planting area, perfect for picnics and for children to play in, and dotted with benches to sit and relax and listen to the birds in the cool shade of the trees.
Park Gate has an active Residents' Association which organises an annual summer garden party and various events in line with Eric Lyon's philosophy around community. Every December the silver birch tree in the central courtyard is lit up with Christmas lights and residents get together for a warm drink and mince pies.

BEAR IN MIND Each apartment has the addition of a large secure storage room positioned just outside the door, ensuring the flat remains clutter free. There is a communal bike room in each block to safely store bikes.
